Dental Implants Look and Function Just Like Natural Teeth

Do your loose or missing teeth make you self-conscious about your smile? Do you have trouble chewing some of your favorite foods or speaking properly? If the condition of your teeth is starting to negatively affect your life, Dr. Paul Lustiger and his team at Dental Professionals of Jersey City in New Jersey have a solution for you. Dental implants are no longer just for the elderly; they’re not the clunky, embarrassing things you may have seen on TV. Dental technology has changed, and implants now look just like your natural teeth.

Dental implants have many benefits

Your replacement teeth will provide many positive changes, such as the ability to chew better, improved speech, stronger bite, a healthier-looking smile, and more confidence. Because the replacement teeth are permanent, you won’t ever have to worry about losing them.

Dental implants come on metal posts that Dr. Lustiger will surgically implant in your mouth. Bridges or crowns secure the new teeth, filling the gaps where your original ones are missing.

Replacement teeth come in many forms

Not all replacement teeth look the same. Your teeth may take the form of bridges, dentures, or crowns. You may only require a few replacement teeth or multiples. Dr. Lustiger can discuss all the options available to you after an initial evaluation.

What to expect during the replacement process

After reviewing your medical history and taking X-ray images of your mouth, Dr. Lustiger will conduct a comprehensive dental exam to determine the implants that are right for you. A digital exam will help the dental lab create your new teeth.

If your jawbone requires additional strength to handle the implanted teeth, you may need some tissue grafting first. This can come in the form of natural or synthetic bone grafts. After, Dr. Lustiger will perform the surgery to implant the replacement teeth into your jawbone. You will need to follow a special diet for a few months to heal and protect your new teeth, and wear a temporary crown or denture device. Implants and replacements can be placed in the same visit or may need to be done separately, depending on how you heal.
